After a morning traipsing around Plymouth on duty chores with the wind
howling I made a bid for freedom after lunch. High tide precluded Bigbury
so I chanced Wonwell with the hope that the forecasted swing from SE to S
would occur. The wind was funnelling down the Estuary after a fashion but
there was still a lot of East in it. I was dying to try out the new Ezzy so
I went for it with the freestyle board.
Wobbled out to the middle and was stranded with no wind at all and the
inevitable happened. Spent the next half hour trying to uphaul but there
was no wind at all to balance with. Eventually ended up 100m down river
with a walk back up.
Second attempt was marginally more successful as the wind had picked up a
bit and I managed to struggle upwind towards the mouth. Managed to get
planing only to find there was no where near enough outhaul so I headed to
the nearest beach to rectify it. After a frustrating hour of catching the
odd gust I headed back and called it a day. Could have spent the time
building brownie points instead.
